We have been discussing the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge recently, and it has a lot to tell us about how we treat our public lands. When it was created, due to the bloated sense of entitlement of ranchers it was actually the Hart Mountain Private Livestock Refuge. All the livestock that were degrading antelope habitat remained.

But due to the herculean efforts over a very long time by manager who actually had spines, livestock were removed. While much recovery has occurred since this great film was released, you get the picture. Now just picture what the American West would be like if the rest of the hooved maggots were removed from our public lands. Please do watch….

For more examples on how the land can start to heal after hooved maggots are removed, go to our site. For the Elk Meadow example in the Sawtooth Range in central Idaho be sure to click the ‘pop-out’ button on the full report by former Forest Service biologist Mark Moulton to see his report full size.

And there is more about Hart Mountain below that.
